I have a house, but my house have an address. Likewise, my house is my web-site, or the content of my website. The platform of hosting such as wordpress, drupal, blogger and facebook are like the building materials of the house. We have permanent house, hut and semi-permanent houses. These houses have addresses: in which island or village, and which clan or family, and on what street. Likewise, we need to have address of our web hosting, that is why we need domain name. With domain name only, we can access our websites.
So, related to my previous explanation, to buy a domain name is like to buy an address or a piece of land to build a house. And to build a website is like to build a house. People will come to my address (domain name) and see my house (website).
